How to eliminate low back pain

The Body mechanic's

This book is available on Amazon by the end of April

In The Body Mechanic’s Handbook: Why You Have Low Back Pain and How To Eliminate It At Home Geoff Dakin addresses the most common chronic pain problem of our time. Modern humans move far less than our ancestors did, which Geoff claims causes tightness imbalances and related bony alignment problems in the body, very commonly resulting in low back pain.

In this book Geoff encourages you to become your own “body mechanic” and teaches you how to do so. At the heart of his program is a simple, straightforward system of floor exercise intended to restore proper function to muscles and joints, and reorganize the body away from painful, inefficient postures.

His explanations and methods are often surprising and counter-intuitive. For example, Dakin claims that the most common cause of low back pain is faulty alignment of the pelvis. He goes on to say that this is the primary reason that back pain problems are so common and back surgery success so unpredictable.

“When part of your body breaks down it may seem to come out of the blue, almost spontaneously. If you decide to dig in and work on understanding what caused the breakdown, you’re going to need some expert help. I’ve seen many of my patients benefit from the system Geoff outlines in the Body Mechanic’s Handbook. As you put the pieces of your health puzzle together, you’re going to need a great team; I’m glad to have Geoff Dakin on mine! This book can put him on yours!”

Geoff Dakin-130About the author

Geoff Dakin graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1987 with an undergraduate degree in Physical Education and obtained a diploma from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy (Vancouver) in 1989.

Early in his career Geoff recognized that the vast majority of people who suffer with muscle and joint pain also have imbalances in their postures, muscles and movements. The assessment and elimination of these issues has become his specialty.

A past president of the Massage Therapists Association of BC (MTA of BC), Geoff also spent a year with the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League (1991-92), being one of the first massage therapists in the NHL to travel with his team.

A vocal advocate of a collaborative model of care, Geoff has been working closely with other healthcare specialists to maximize patient success since 1989. His second book, which will be released later in 2016 is based on a collection of interviews with an incredibly diverse group of world class practitioners. Geoff is currently based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, maintaining a private practice and teaching massage therapists’ his Alignment First Protocol.
