Rebecca Swan, RMT

I have always had an interest in healing. As a young girl I often dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. That was until I came to the realization that not only would I have to help healthy animals, but very sick ones as well. Needless to say I was off onto the next profession VERY quickly. Growing up I spent a lot of time repeatedly (almost habitually) injuring myself in various sporting circumstances. It seemed I was always in arenas, my father coached and I was always cheering on my older brother. This, combined with an avid interest in almost trying almost anything once. I was hooked on finding out how the body worked.

My first taste of rehab came in the form of Wilderness First-Aid at the tender age of nine... I had the bug even then. By the time I was fourteen years old, I knew the field I wanted to be was rehabilitation... now in the human form. At the age of sixteen I was in a work experience program with Calgary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre, which lead to a permanent position, and so my course was set.

I took my massage training at the Mount Royal College Centre for Complimentary Health. Most recently, I spent five years with Panther Sports Medicine performing Exercise Rehabilitation. This gave me a wonderful insight in how exercise propels and advances the healing process.

I have a passion for lacrosse, and for three years now I have had the pleasure of providing my expertise to the Simon Fraser University Men's Field Lacrosse Program, along with the Calgary Master's Lacrosse League and the Tri-City John B's (based in Vancouver).

My most recent personal interests traveling (ask me about Australia), hiking, climbing, disc golf (I recommend this to anyone and everyone - a must try!) and ultimate Frisbee (I must improve my skills before I make any recommendations to anyone!). This season I have decided to play Australian Rules Football - a contact sport that is a mix of soccer and rugby... wish me luck!
